The Feldenkrais Method in Practice

Your Feldenkrais practitioner works with your whole self every time you do a lesson. All of you, your body and mind, is at the centre of each lesson,

The Feldenkrais method works in two different and complementary ways: Functional Integration and Awareness Through Movement lessons (read below for details).

Both Functional Integration and Awareness Through Movement lessons access the brain's innate capacity of perceiving differences between which movement is easy and works, and which one is not. These lessons are centred around movement patterns that you use in daily life, for example turning, lifting of arms, balance etc. Movements that are not effortless or cause pain are avoided. There are no exercises, no repetitive movements, no stretching movements and there is no strain.

Feldenkrais lessons are not goal-oriented, you will be learning in an organic way, much as you did when you were a baby and explored the world for the first time.

RESeT: Feldenkrais Galway offer:

Functional Integration Lessons

Functional Integration lessons are individual lessons, tailored to your unique abilities and requirements.

In Functional Integration lessons, your practitioner will work with you to explore how your body and mind affect your daily movements and how your daily movements affect your body and mind. This is usually done lying on a low table, occasionally in other positions too. The movements are gentle, small and slow. Each lesson is based on a movement or movement sequence(s) that you would perform in everyday life. This will be explored in many variations.

You will remain fully clothed throughout the lesson.

Group Awareness Through Movement Lessons

Group Awareness through Movement lessons are verbally guided, gentle movement explorations, done in a group setting. Class sizes can vary.

In Awareness Through Movement lessons, you will be verbally guided to explore how your body is organised in movement. This is usually done lying on a mat on the floor, but often contains elements of sitting, standing or walking. The movements are gentle, small and slow.

Each  ATM lesson is based on a movement or movement sequence(s) that you would perform in everyday life, such as turning, reaching, sitting etc. This will be explored in many variations.

Awareness Through Movement lessons will often be offered as series of 6-8 weeks, in which issues like back, neck, walking, sitting or other are addressed in a coherent way to enhance your awareness of them, leading to improvement in how they work.

Group ATM lessons are offered in person or on Zoom.

Individual Awareness Through Movement Lessons

Individual Awareness Through Movement Lessons are personalised lessons specifically tailored to you.

The lessons are verbally guided and there is no physical contact between the practitioner and you.

These lessons are offered in my Feldenkrais practice in Galway city or on Zoom.

Workshops

Occasionally, workshops are offered, which will focus on particular aspects of the Feldenkrais method in practice.
